ADE Considers New Chinese Program

ADE Considers New Chinese Program

04/03/2014

ADE is considering a new program that utilizes Chinese intern teachers to teach Chinese language and culture enrichment classes at the elementary grade level.

The interns would be from a Teaching Chinese as a Second Language master’s degree program in China. The master’s degree program requires the completion of a one-to-two-year teaching internship.

These Hanban teacher candidates are currently doing internships all over the world. Once a candidate completes this internship, he is eligible to apply for the Teach Chinese in Arkansas program.

Districts would not be required to pay a teacher’s salary for these interns. Hanban would pay $12,000 to the intern. The district’s obligations would include housing, transportation to school and health insurance.

Interested school district personnel should contact Michael Rowland at michael.rowland@arkansas.gov for more information.
