SREB Summer Conferences
The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), as part of its annual High Schools That Work (HSTW) Staff Development Conference, is offering the Common Core State Standards Networking Conference, July 15- 17, 2013, in Charlotte, North Carolina. This cost-effective conference will showcase the Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) and Mathematics Design Collaborative (MDC), instructional tools developed by the Gates Foundation to help teachers meet the new standards. These tools have been field tested in Arkansas and several other SREB states during the past two years and have proven to engage students in deeper learning and increase student achievement.
This conference will provide an exciting, open-learning environment for collaboration, and networking to improve student achievement through the LDC and the MDC strategies and tools. It is a great opportunity for a school district team to advance student achievement by actively engaging more students in assignments that cause them to apply a greater effort to achieve higher standards.
In addition, SREB will host the 27th Annual HSTW Staff Development Conference immediately following the CCSS Networking Conference on July 17-20, 2013, in Charlotte, North Carolina. This conference is one of the nation’s leading professional development conferences for teachers and leaders, featuring over 500 practitioner- and expert-led sessions that will share proven tools, best-practices and instructional strategies to graduate more students college- and career-ready. This year HSTW will showcase Preparation for Tomorrow (PFT), a new career/technical (CT) curriculum which will do for CT studies what AP did for academic studies. The new PFT curriculums are to be the model by which all future CT programs will be judged.
Attached is a brochure on the 27th Annual HSTW Staff Development Conference that includes more information about the types of high-quality sessions that will be available at this conference. A lower cost is available if individuals elect to attend both conferences.
SREB is hosting the one-stop shop for educators’ professional development needs.
