Educational Testing Service (ETS) develops and produces the Praxis Series Assessments which are required for licensure in our state. When registering for Praxis I and Praxis II assessments in completion of Arkansas licensure requirements, applicants should request that test results be sent to the Arkansas Department of Education.

For information about the Praxis Series Assessments and Arkansas requirements for those, please find information for Arkansas posted on the ETS Web site. A testing booklet and information about testing costs, dates, and locations will also be found on the ETS Web site. Arkansas colleges and universities have registration information for Praxis I and II assessments. Interested persons may also contact the Office of Professional Licensure at the Arkansas Department of Education.

Praxis test takers will have access to a new online registration system. The new system, e-Praxis, will offer many enhancements, including 24/7 access to register for both computer-delivered and paper-delivered tests in one place. Test takers will now have the option of using PayPal® and e-check payment, in addition to credit/debit card.

Praxis I

Praxis I assessments are administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). These assessments are basic skills tests: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. They are generally taken before entering, or at the beginning of a teacher preparation program. These tests may be taken as either standard paper tests, or as computer-based tests. For more information visit the ETS Web site or consult your college or university teacher preparation program.

Praxis II

Praxis II assessments are more advanced tests of teaching skill and subject area content knowledge, and are administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). They are generally taken while enrolled in, or towards the end of a teacher preparation program. For more information visit the ETS Web site or consult your college or university teacher preparation program.

PRAXIS III™

PRAXIS III™ assessments are performance assessments. They are administered by the Office of Teacher Quality at the Arkansas Department of Education. This assessment is taken by new (or novice) teachers in their own classroom setting.

In Arkansas, successful completion of the PRAXIS III™ Teacher Performance Assessment is required to convert an Arkansas Provisional or Initial Teaching License to a Standard Teaching License. PRAXIS III™ uses structured interviews before and after a classroom observation. This inventory requires written descriptions of the novice teacher's class and plan for instruction. Using evidence-centered design, information is documented during direct observation of the teacher's implementation of instruction practices by a trained, nationally-certified teacher performance assessor.

An assessment schedule and instructions for applying to be assessed may be found on the PRAXIS III™ Information page.

For questions or problems concerning the ATLAS system, please call the Office of Teacher Quality at 501-682-5535.
