Educator Licensure - Administrator Licensure

Administrators in Arkansas schools play a key role in the education of all students, being responsible for daily management operations and, most importantly, instructional leadership for all.

The heart of Arkansas’s performance-based licensure system is the Standards for Licensure of Beginning Administrators. These six standards guide the performance-based route encompassing educational leadership, school management, school climate, community relations, curriculum management, and data collection and analysis.

An administrator license, issued by the state, allows one to serve as an administrator in an Arkansas school district or other state agency or organization requiring an administrator license.

Four Administrator Licenses

  • Building Level Administrator - a principal, assistant principal, or vice principal (grade levels P-8 and/or 5-12)
  • Building Level Administrator/Arkansas Correctional Schools - a principal, assistant principal, or vice principal at the Arkansas Correctional Schools (grade level 5-12)
  • Curriculum/Program Administrator - a school leader who is responsible for program development and administration, and/or employment evaluation decisions. Each Curriculum/Program Administrator License is limited to one of the following areas:
    • Special Education (grade level P-12)
    • Gifted and Talented Education (grade level P-12)
    • Career and Technical Education (grade levels 4-8, 7-12 and/or post-secondary)
    • Adult Education (post-secondary
    • Content Area Specialist (grade level P-12)
    • Curriculum Specialist (grade level P-12)
  • District Level Administrator - a superintendent, assistant superintendent, or deputy superintendent (grade level P-12)
