Policy and Legislative Services


The Office of Policy and Legislative Services includes the director of Policy and Special Projects and the director of Legislative Services.

The Policy and Special Projects director coordinates STEM policy for the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet Initiative, STEM Works. STEM Works specifically seeks to overhaul the ways in which Arkansas high school students receive STEM education and to increase the number of well-qualified STEM teachers. A major role is to provide guidance, leadership and coordination for the statewide implementation of the New Tech High School Model, Project Lead the Way, EAST Core, and UTeach Teacher Preparation Program. 

Another responsiblity is to help facilitate the goals of the Governor and First Lady’s No Kid Hungry campaign and the ADE Child Nutrition unit by developing support strategies to improve the outcomes of both programs. The director also serves as liaison to the Department of Career Education and Department of Higher Education and serves in the place of the Education Commissioner on the Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Commission and the Arkansas Project Graduation Commission. 

The Director of Legislative Services coordinates Department legislative activities during the General Assembly with regard to proposed legislation and bill analysis and serves as liaison between the Arkansas State Legislature, the Arkansas Bureau of Legislative Research and the Arkansas Department of Education.  She attends all education-related committee meetings and provides regular updates to the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and the Leadership Team.  The Director ensures that ADE personnel are in attendance at legislative committee meetings as needed.
