This collection of combined resources will aid in furthering understanding of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts/Literacy and its implementation in Arkansas.

Understanding the Standards


Common Core Arkansas is an informative video about the Common Core State Standards.

The Council of the Great City Schools has produced a Three-Minute Video Explaining the CCSS.

The Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects, as adopted by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), can be found at  This site has many resources for understanding and implementing the CCSS:


The ADE has partnered with the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) to develop, present, and publish presentations and materials on understanding the CCSS, which are housed on

ADE also produced the Overview of the ELA Big Shifts and Understanding the Big Shifts in CCSS as resources for all stakeholders.

Supporting Learning


Common Core at Work is a video about the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in Arkansas.

In addition to the CCSS, the Arkansas State Board of Education adopted numerous other curriculum framework documents, including several specific to ELA.

As part of ADE’s partnership with AETN, there is also a library of ELA-based curriculum and assessment presentations and materials that are designed to support learning. AETN’s PBS LearningMedia system provides resources for teachers utilizing digital learning.

ADE and its specialists have composed and maintain a collection of ELA resources for curriculum planning.

ADE has also produced a Refrigerator Curriculum that parents can use to support classroom instruction.

Arkansas is part of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) consortia. PARCC has many classroom resources for educators including the PARCC Model Content Frameworks, which may be beneficial for curriculum development using the CCSS.
