Welcome to the Arkansas Department of Education where our goal is to support teaching and learning through a broad range of programs and services.
Arkansas’s public schools are beginning a new trend line with the implementation of Common Core State Standards, next generation assessments, new methods of measuring individual teacher and principal performance and a new system of accountability.
The rigorous and challenging new learning standards will allow us to build upon the progress already made to ensure our students are future ready. When complete, the new assessment system will assess the full range of the Common Core State Standards to determine whether students are college and career ready.
As the state implements a new accountability system to more effectively assess, identify and intervene in troubled schools, steps must also be taken to enact legislation to ensure our students have the most talented, effective teachers in classrooms and hurdles to innovation and creativity are removed.
At the Department, we are guided by our commitment to provide educators a comprehensive set of tools to give every child in every part of our state the opportunity and hope that only comes with a quality education. We carry out that commitment in partnership with Arkansas school districts and other organizations that provide educational programs and services. Students, parents, educators, elected officials, business and community leaders and the general public are all stakeholders in our work to improve schools and raise student achievement.
Our website offers a wealth of information on numerous programs supported by our agency. We've reorganized the site in a way that allows for easier searches and quicker navigation. Our information is updated continuously, so we hope you will visit us often.
